  • Kermit: Part 2 - Europe beckons

Kermit’s international adventures started early when at the tender age of 17 he was called up to the South African national U23 side, otherwise known as Amaglug-glug. He even managed to score a cracker on his debut in a friendly against Denmark. Typical for a young man who seems to take in his stride every new challenge placed in front of him.

Announcing himself internationally in such a fashion alerted some of Europe’s top clubs to this burgeoning talent. It wasn’t long before they were beating a path to the door of his agent Ashley Kotzin. While playing for SuperSport United Kermit had been regularly invited for summer training camps with Dutch Eredivisie club Feyenoord and they were now ready to make their move.

Upon his turning 18 in July 2008, the Rotterdam based club made Kermit a long-term offer with a contract that would change his life forever. The move to Holland would lead to serious upheaval for a teenager from the Eastern Cape. Leaving his family and girlfriend behind was hard enough, but moving to an alien culture, far removed from the sleepy township life of Arkadia, was not an easy switch. Kermit had broken into the big time, but now he had to show the world he could stay there… Coming next: Part 3 - Rotterdam to Egypt and Beyond
